Love story (bar fight)
This was not how it was supposed to end
on a dirty side street, after a bar fight, bloodied knuckles and breath smelling like stale beer
The evening was far more beautiful than the situation warranted - moonlight dancing
with the gloom from a half-moon, illuminating the mess we had created on this alleyway
This was not the first time I thought he was too stupid to live, but even for him, this was a new low
Prone to self-loathing, scarred from trauma that never happened, it seemed like he cursed himself
to a life destined to end on this alleyway tonight
In most cases, status quo and the imagined worst case scenario are the same thing
but he had outdone himself, conjuring up a scenario worse than my tame imagination and darkest nightmares could come up with combined
He was the worst kind of fool,
a desperate romantic,
a rebel without a point,
only an unyielding need to get out, get out, get out
never really defining what that meant
He embodied the tragedy of the human condition,
but he was beautiful and wanted to dance with me
and who am I to turn down a beautiful boy with wild green eyes and a warm body
The colour green feels like life, and he was always blue
not like the vast ocean with beautiful secrets and colorful life, but like the deepest trenches filled with God knows what
Maybe it was better that I never knew all of it,
maybe it was for the best that I never understood
He stood in the dark alleyway,
eyes dancing with maniacal glee, unshed tears and a deeply rooted sadness, and I only felt fear
the fear made me feel alive
maybe fear is not the worst thing in the world
This was not how it was supposed to end, but I kept holding his hand.
